Is B.G. really
the heart of the streetz? Well, he most certainly believes so.
We practically watched B.G. grow up in the music industry, starting
out with Cash Money in a group called the B.G.z, alongside then
partner in rhyme, Lil Wayne. He later released a stream of solo
albums, including 1998's critically acclaimed "Chopper City
In The Ghetto", which featured the classic hit, "Bling
Bling. He eventually left Cash Money and ventured out to create
his own imprint, Chopper City Records. Since it's inception, he's
released two more albums, and is now ready to released his next,
titled, "Heart Of The Streetz". Talking to B.G., he's
just as laid back as ever, and as always, completely on his grind.
He sits down to tell us about his new album and what's to be expected,
as well as the future of Chopper City Records and what else is
to come in the following months.
First of all man, like I tell
everybody…. good lookin out for taking the time out
for the interview.
B.G.: It's cool.
What everybody wants to know
man, is where ya been hiding since your last
album?
B.G.: Shit, I been working. On
the road. In the studio. I just been hustlin.
So what's up with the new album?
Can you tell me a little bit about it?
B.G.: That Heart of the Streetz?
Man, shit it's hot! It's gangsta. It's the B.G. that everybody
love and respect. It's just me doing me. Spittin. Shit I got through.
Shit I see. Shit I'm going through in my life. You know, and I
named it the Heart of the Streetz because I feel like I am the
heart of the streetz. Nobody can't operate without heart. If I
stop, then the streetz stop pumpin’.
Now, who's working with you this
time around as far as production goes? Are you working with all
in-house producers?
B.G.: I reached out to a lot
of the same people I did with Life After Cash Money. You know,
Smurf, KLC, some of that cut-throat music.
Any outside collaborations at
all?
B.G.: Naw, I just want it mainly
towards my Chopper City boys, so I kept it all in-house.
What's being going on with Chopper
City? We never hear anything about it
besides the fact that your cds are coming out on the label ?
B.G.: right ! My last two albums
was out on Chopper City. I got me, my brother Hakim, Gar, Sniper,
and Mike.
I know you recently did that
track with C- Murder. How did that come about?
B.G.: Well you know, C-Murder,
he real and he from the home team. He reached
out to me in jail, and I got a lot of respect for him. He doing
his thang and making his moves and ain't lettin [jail] stop him.
He told me he had a song that he wanted for me to get on, and
it was no problem.
So the cd is coming out when?
B.G.: May 24th!
What's planned as far as promo?
Is there a tour in the works?
B.G.: Yeah! I'm going on a radio
promo tour first. Then I'm gone come back and do my own tour.
So what else is going on with
you besides this album?
B.G.: Well like I said, this
album drops May 24th. I just finished Heart of the Streetz Volume
II. Then I got my Chopper City Boyz album I'm working on. Plus
we gone do solo albums for everybody. So you know, just doing
my thang.
Anyone that has followed your
career knows that you've been through a lot in
your career. What's been the biggest lesson thus far that you
have learned?
B.G.: The biggest lesson has been
that this rap game is like the streets. You can trust nobody.
Make sure your business is right.
Final CommentIs ? Is there anything
you wanted to get out there that I didn't touch on?
B.G.: Really it's just the album.
Look out for the new album May 24th. Get it out the store and
not bootleg, cause if it ain't real, it ain't me.
