Baby Stone, since the ast time we talked, I understand that your
label, Corner Boy Worldwide, has
signed a distribution deal with Good Life / Artemis. How did that
come about ?
My attorney, Tracy Randall, he shopped my album around for us,
and some of the A&Rs at Artemis liked it. They really wanted
to release my first album, but we went on to something else.
U just released your first album about
a year ago, didn’t u ?
Yeah, we released that album about a year
ago. Better Way was my debut album. Within that
time, I also released my mix-tape, Cornerboy Worldwide.
What made yall move on to a new album
instead of staying with the first one ?
Better Way was after my coming out of
prison. I was basically in a developmental stage. Know
what I’m sayin ? From that point on, I just felt better
about coming out with some new
material. I also had management issues and I just wanted to leave
all that behind and start
with a clean slate.
What exactly will Artemis do for Cornerboy Worldwide ?
All we’re looking for is the placement
of the product. We just want them to put the albums
on the shelves. In the U.S. and overseas. We gonna still get out
and grind ourselves.
So, is Cornerboy handling it’s own
promotion ?
Yeah, right now we’re handling our
own promotion. We basically gone get out and do what we
been doing. That’s hittin’ the streets grindin’.
Is your new project complete or are u
still working on it ?
Right now I’m in the finishing stage
with a little mixing and stuff. Hopefully, within the next week
it’ll be mastered.
Who are some of the people who helped
u out on this album, as far as features and production ?
I got Drumma Boy, Trackstar Records, a
couple of producers out of Atlanta, The Architects (out of
Nashville).... Basically a lot of underdog cats.
What else are yall doing ?
Well, with this Artemis thing, we have
the opportunity to venture into movies and clothing. Hopefully
we’ll get into that soon.
I noticed there are some old faces and
names not associated with Cornerboy anymore. What made yall make
the change ?
It’s all about growth. U know ?
We had to do some weeding out of that personnel that we thought
was stopping the growth and not puttin’ as much effort into
it as we were puttin’ into it. It was no hard feelings involved,
but we were just trying to move forward.
Why did yall go with management and an
attorney from New York ? Did u think he could more for u because
of his connections ?
That’s not the reason, but that
does make a lot of sense. We were already dealing with the
attorney, but through the management I had it was like a middleman
relationship. Through that
weeding out, we’re able to connect more with the attorney
and get more done.
Are yall offering distribution deals to
other artists and labels ?
Certainly, we’re screening calls
now, and running ads to let everyone know. The opportunity
is there for these guys who aren’t able to sit down with
these distribution companies.
