Texas is the home of screw music, syrup, candy paint, and
quit a
few rap legends. One group that stands out, is UGK “Underground
Kingz.” Bun B and Pimp C have been on the underground scene
droppin’ hit after hit for a while now. Now Bun B is ready
2 take his status 2 greater heights with a solo project.
DG : What’s the business Bun B ?
Bun B : U got it maine. Just down here reppin’.
DG : Everybody wants 2 know what’s up with UGK ?
Bun B : We just maintaining. U know ? It’s a few monkey
wrenches the game has thrown at us, but we done been thru that
20 times before. It’s the same ole struggle 2 grind and
play my part, but we on our tiptoes.
DG : U have a new group, The MDDL FNGZ. Who are these kats ?
Bun B : Well, The MDDL FNGZ are a group from Houston, Texas,
and one kat from Bay Town. Just some kats I knew from this other
clique I was with. Over time, we all got closer. and closer, and
it wasn’t for us. We were all with House Hold, but on a
different vibe. Ya Know ? We was like... we got a nice little
vibe, so let’s see what we can do with that. They had put
out an album before, under House Hold, and were ready 2 try the
game again. We got together, and the MDDL FNGZ stuff they had
never really jumped off. So we ran with the concept, and before
u know it, we was doin’ the damn thang.
DG: There has been a giant buzz that u have a solo album in the
works. Can u speak on that ?
Bun B: Yeah ! Well.. it’s just a buzz on the street that
I’m with Rap-A-Lot now. The solo project that I’m
doin’ now is thru Jive. What people don’t know, is
that Lil’ J’s ( from Rap-A-Lot Records) been helpin’
us with our negotiations with Jive. We are tryin’ 2 figure
out what we can do 2 help him on his side for helping us. What
J and me did is form a label. And we gonna do some thangs with
that. But my first solo is gonna be with Jive. Be lookin’
for me and Lil’ J 2 make a million and one moves and dollars
together.
DG: What label are u workin’ with on this project ?
Bun B: I just been workin’ with The MDDL FNGZ, gettin’
them boys straight, my solo project, and another “Live !
From Da Manjah” compilation this year. I been workin’
with a couple of kats. Like Dee Money Records, from the ATL, Lil’
Boosie out of Baton Rouge, and different kats from the South whose
projects I can contribute something 2. Not just a cameo, but on
the business side of things, so they can move thru the Southern
connection.
DG: It’s been said that Pimp C is in jail for a minute.
What is the situation with that ?
Bun B: Yeah, Pimp got to sit down for about 2 or 3 years. That’s
why I’m out on the grind keepin’ the name rollin’.
But he’ll be home soon. So it’s all good.
DG: What’s goin’ on with your deal with Jive ?
Bun B: Well right now, with Pimp C gone, we haven’t been
able 2 turn a new album in 2 Jive. That’s why I’m
doin’ a solo project thru them. I’ll
Probably do a compilation with them, and then I think we’ll
be thru with them and move on 2 different things. We’ll
decide if we wanna go major with our label. If we do, it’ll
have 2 be a ridulous deal, cause they giving out crazy money.
Otherwise, we goin’ indie and take it 2 to the streets and
get all my bread.
DG: U have been one of the most underrated MC’s in the
game. How do u feel about gettin’ your just dues ?
Bun B: Well, from the people (fans), it matters. They always
show me love and respect. As far as that relationship is concerned
- as long as I can maintain that, I’ll be fine. As far as
what the industry people feel about me -
they don’t know music as well as they think they do. The
other half is all politics. I ain’t tripping off people
judging me who don’t love me. People who love Southern music,
not just for where it sells, I show love 2 them. If u don’t
go all out for the South, don’t think the South’s
gone go all out for yall. Ya Know ?
DG: What’s the next move for u ?
Bun B: I just got married. So that was real good for me. I’m
keepin’ this UGK thang rollin’ with Pimp C Gone. I’m
thanking the Lord for all the blessings, and keepin’ these
haters off me. I’m gone have something ready for my dog
when he gets out.
DG: Any final words for the people ?
Bun B: UGK thanks everyone that’s down with us and keepin’
us in the streets. The boys behind the walls and overseas......
keep holdin’ us down, and we gone do the same for yall.
