What’s poppin’ Chat?

U know, my new album, Dramatize, dropped on September 28. I’ve got a hot single called “Round And Round,” with Mike Jones (outta Houston, Texas). I’m not dealing with Hypnotized Minds anymore. I’m dealing with Rap Hustlaz..... Another label out of Memphis. They’re doin’ their thang.

Nakia Shine.... Right ?

Yeah Nakia Shine !

They’re a lot of people out here wondering what went down with u, DJ Paul, Juicy J., and Hypnotized Minds. At one point, it seems like u were on everything they were putting out. Then, u just disappeared.

Well, I sold 200,000 records and I didn’t get anything off of it. I ain’t get a check off of it.

Not one check ?

Not One !! They kept on saying the record company ain’t sent them no check, yet. U know, so I had to roll. U know, I ain’t gone never bad mouth ‘em. I ain’t mad at ‘em or nothin’. Cause it’s because of them that I was even able to sell 200,000 albums. They gave me a chance. Now that they’ve put me out here, that’s my thanks to them. Whatever yall got, yall can have. I gotta roll on.

For those folks reading this who may not know who La Chat is, tell em about some of the tracks that you’ve been featured on.

I was the female voice on “Chicken- head,” by Project Pat. I did the “Baby Mama,” video with DJ Paul and Juicy J. I was on “2 Way Freak,” with Paul and Juicy J. Then I had my own album, Murder She Spoke (still in stores). I was in the Choices movie also

Who’s featured on your new album ?

I got Juvenile, and Mike Jones.

How’s your relationship with Gangsta Boo ? U know, since everyone kind of looked at u as her replacement in Three 6 Mafia ?

Awh, we alright. It ain’t no beef or nothin’. U know, we ain’t friends. We ain’t going out or doin’ nothin’ like that. But it ain’t no beef, either.

How did u get your start in the business ?

I’ve been rapping since the 3rd grade. Just tried to write a rap one day. A Black History rap about Martin Luthor King. I performed it at my school and some other schools. Ever since then, I’ve thought I was a rap star (laughing). Back in the days when Three 6 was underground, I was rapping with them underground. I had did a talent show when I was in 7th grade, and this guy who was rapping with Juicy J. already, he was in the talent show, also. He came in first and I came in second. He ended up tellin’ Juicy J. about me rappin. Juicy J. ended up callin’ me. Back then, It was about rappin’ for fun. I was working and doin’ a lot of other things. I had a baby daddy situation that went down back then, and I couldn’t get out there like I wanted. I remember once, Juicy had called and told me he wanted me to come outside and stuff went down. I don’t really know what. But Juicy asked me, “Ok Chat, u wanna be with your baby daddy, or do u wanna rap?” I was like, it’s all about fun for me. It ain’t bout no money. So let me gone on with my life. I kept on workin’. I was managing a Dixie Queen before I got back with them. I kept rappin’, though. I did some lyrics on Tommy Wright’s albums. I kept my name out there. Then I did a cd called Ultimate Revenge back in ‘97-’98 (they’ve just put it out). Paul them, heard it, and that’s what they signed me off of.

What have u been doin’ since u left Hypnotized Mind ? I’ve got a mix cd out. I never stopped writing. Now I’m finishing up the Summertime album.

What is it about Rap Hustlaz that made u wanna sign with them?

They were just another independent label in Memphis that I knew was comin’ up.

What would u say u learned from your situation with Hypnotized Minds ?

To be more aware. U know, u really take chances out here on everything u do. I put my faith in them. The deal that I’ve got with Rap Hustlaz, I’m not their artist. It’s a partnership. Everything we do is up forward. It ain’t nothing like I’m signed up under them and they gettin’ me where I wanna go. Cause I’m already here. I done sold 200,000 records. Basically, they’re just giving me that boost. Nothing can be discussed without me. If I’m not present, it can’t be discussed.
