Maceo, we’ve been hearing your hot new club banger,
“Go Sit Down,” a lot lately. Was that the first song
that you’ve ever released?
Yeah, that’s my first major release.
Before that, I did a couple of mixtapes.
You’re from Atlanta, right ?
Yeah, the Atlanta area. Zone 6, Eastside,
whatever u wanna call it.
What type of life did u live growing up
on the eastside ?
Like any other hood. U know what I mean
? U had niggas doin’ whatever they do. U had niggas tryin
to make it up out the situation they in.
I heard that your older brother, Mario,
raised u and that u helped raise two of your younger siblings.
Why is that ?
Shit, u gotta do what cha gotta do.....
Don’t cha ? It’s something I had to deal with. Know
what I mean ? We adjusted to it, and we did what we did.
Are u and your older brother closer because
of it ?
Yeah, me and all my brothers close.
Did this start out as a hobby for u, or
did u get in it all about your business ?
The CEO of the label I’m with, Quick
Flip, I been knowing him. We grew up together. We from the same
neighborhood. He’s the one who really told me to take it
more seriously and make a job out of it, instead of a hobby. That’s
when I started taking it more serious. That’s when we came
with “Go Sit Down.”
For someone who’s never heard your
music, how would u describe it to ‘em ?
A versatile style. I switch up a lot.
I got a song that I did for my mama, called “Out Of This
World.” I got a song for the streets, called “The
Struggle.” I did the Biggie joint over, “West Beef.”
I named it “West Streets.” I got a song for the ladies,
called “On My Way.” I got party songs. I got a lot
of different stuff. I got a crunk side. I can write songs, write
stories. U know what I mean ? I can do a lot.
With a lot of young brothers getting caught
up in drugs and your being a 19-year-old from the streets, how
did u manage to elude getting caught up ?
I did get caught up. But nothing really
major. Just little stupid shit. Know what I mean ? Watching my
brother them get banged up for all that, really drew me away from
it. It made me wanna do something else.
With all of the noise that you’ve
been making recently, have any major labels been after u ?
Yeah, but they know my situation. Once
I get thru with my situation, then it’s whatever. It’s
whatever I wanna do. Know what I mean ? Really, I’m just
workin’ now to build a fan base.
There’s an assumption that the southern
artist isn’t a real lyricist and that all they do is crunk
and booty music. What’s your view on that opinion ?
I spit what’s real. I talk about
real shit that I done seen and I done did. That’s how I
do it. I was raised around the hood. So, most likely that’s
what I’m gone rap about. I try to be different. I just ain’t
gone go straight out and rap about dope. I switch it up a lot.
Who was it that made u wanna do this?
Really, every artist. Mainly artists out
of “The A” (Atlanta). Cause they opened the doors,
man.
What artist out here would u wanna measure
yourself against. As far as reaching that next level ?
Really, 50 Cent doin’ it right now.
U gotta get on your business, man. That’s just tellin’
me to get on my business. He showing it ain’t hard to do,
but u gotta handle ya business. Yall watch out for this album
I got coming on my little brother, Marco, and a cat named Bubba.
My album, Straight Out Da Pot, is out September 27th on
Quick Flip / Big Cat Records Records.
