| It's
been a minute since Mack 10 has been on the scene. From
working his own solo
career to rolling as one third of Westside Connection, this
west coast genius has been busy throughout the years. He's
on the move again, this time making rounds for his new album,
Hustlas Handbook.
What's happenin with you right now
man ?
Mack 10: I've just been workin' man.
You know how it is.
Now I know you have this cd coming
out. I can't say that I've really heard much about it, or
you for that matter. How long have you been working on this
album and what's to be expected?
Mack 10: Well actually, I've been
working on it for a few months now. It's a complete Mack
10
album. Everything the fans are telling me they want, they
are getting it on this album?
But in what ways have you evolved?
Of course, you've been around for so many years now, so
what's going to make this album interesting to your long
time fans and not sound like the
same thing ?
Mack 10: This album is current, and
it's young. It can appeal to the younger audience.
I can't remember you ever having
a problem with appealing to the youngsters. Have
you done anything at all to render your style and delivery
at all ?
Mack 10: This album is not going
to sound as west coast. There's something there for
everybody this time.
Ok. And I think that's a stereo type
that you get nowadays with a lot of artists from Cali. Everything
sounds the same and has that same west coast flavor.
Mack 10: I agree with that. But my
single, "Like This", has a down South & midwest
feel to it, though.
And what's the word on your label
situation? This is with Capitol right ?
Mack 10: Yep. This is with Capitol
Records. Hoo Bangin started out with Priority, and of course,
that was Capitol, but everything switched over.
So what else is happening for you
right now, man?
Mack 10: I'm just on the road a lot,
doing shows, radio, and retail. I'm just trying to make
it happen, man. You got to go out here and sell yourself
now. It ain't just going to happen for
you.
You've been in this business so long
as an artist. How much longer do you see yourself being
an artist and releasing cds ?
Mack 10: That was the intention from
day one. A lot of things just happened, and I kinda forced
it, but that was always the intention. I see myself one
day being in the office. I've had a run long enough to say
it was a career.
Everybody's wondering man, what's
up with Westside Connection? Of course, you had the
album a couple of years back, but what's the status of the
group?
Mack 10: Oh, that's over. It's done.
We ain't doing nothin !
