Mississippi, once only known for it’s blues and gospel, has recently become known for it’s hip - hop. With the emergence of such artists as Afroman and David Banner, “The Sip” has a new movement within it’s self. From it’s coast 2 the northern part of the state. Mississippi’s artists are on a constant grind 2 prove that they belong in hip-hop. One such artist doing so, Magnolia Mac, is in Northeastern Mississippi ( The Golden Triangle area ).

TNP: What’s been goin’ on with u lately ?

MM: I’ve just finished my new album, entitled “King Of The City.” It’s available now. I’m grinding independently, and just tryin’ 2 get recognized for my work. A lot of people in my city and state don’t get recognized for the work that they do.

TNP: Who are some of the people that influenced u ?

MM: UGK, Scarface, 8Ball & MJG. My partner, Ty Springer, as well. He’s the one who got me into rapping.

TNP: What can the people expect from your new album ?

MM: If they want that real down South, hardcore gangsta music, they can go get this Magnolia Mac album. I got something for those who wanna get buck in the club, and those just wanna ride and chill. Folks inside and outside my state should feel me. It’s got that Southern flava. From Memphis to ATL to Texas (2 songs chopped & screwed). I feel I touched all of the South. TNP: Do u feel like the rap game is flooded with 2 many independents ? MM: 2 tell u the truth, I feel like there’s not enough independents in the game. A lot of people really don’t wanna put in the leg work 2 be that artist or that rapper. U can record all the tracks u want, but if you’re not out there taking em 2 radio, the clubs, doin’ that hand 2 hand, stoppin’ at the stores, and doin’ what it takes 2 get paid - then you’re not true 2 being independent.
