I' m sure that those of u familiar with this publication are wondering...What’s
up with the name change ? For those of u who are not familiar with
us, for the first five issues, we were called
The Mississippi Rap Report. Our new name as u have seen, is The
New Power.
The change has come about because of the misconception that some
artists and labels have about us. Some are under the impression
that The Mississippi Rap Report meant we were only a statewide
publication. And that we only featured Southern artists and labels.
In fact, we are not, and never have been confined 2 distributing
in one state. Nor do we only deal with Southern artists. We distribute
to various cities in 9 different states [ As u can see to your
right>>>>>>>> ]. We have featured, and
will continue 2 feature, mainstream and independent artists &
labels worldwide. Our main objective is gettin’ down with
the underground artists and labels. Cause they’re the ones
on the come up. The ones most overlooked by this industry.
We’ve even noticed some disrespect shown 2 us by several
artists and labels. But for the most part, we’ve been shown
nothing but love [by major and independent artists & labels
that we’ve come in contact with].
I was told that an up and coming artist from Memphis was shown
a copy of The Mississippi Rap Report while he was in Atlanta,
and he threw it down and kept walkin’. That’s the
difference in an artist and a businessman. It’s obvious
that this artist doesn’t know the business. Cause in this
business u don’t turn down publicity. Whether it’s
local, regional, or national. This kat’s startin’
2 make a little noise, and now his head’s swole. In this
business there’s no such thing as bad or small time publicity.
This publication could make the difference in another 5,000 to
10,000 units being moved. 2 an artist already moving 100,000 or
more units, that may not mean much. But 2 the artist moving 0
to 20,000 units, it may be what’s needed if you’re
after a major deal, or just tryin 2 feed the family.
Normally, I wouldn’t give a damn what people think. But,
this is a business, and in business the objective is 2 serve.
That’s the only way u move forward. So 2 squash the ignorance,
we decided 2 hit cha with a new name. Why The New Power ? Cause
that’s what we feel we are, The New Power in this business.
Cause real power in life comes from independence. The free spirit.
The rebel. Most magazines don’t care about the small kats.
They don’t care 2 cater 2 that crowd, cause they feel there’s
not enough money in it for ‘em. Everybody can’t spend
$10,000 on an ad. They want the big ballers, and overlook the
little baller. The independent / underground artist is the true
trend setter. He or she has no corporate executive saying....
we want u 2 do an album that sounds like so and so’s, no
restrictions, nor major deadlines 2 meet. So, no matter how small
the other magazines think u are.......Holla at us !!
