Who is P - Boy Stone ?
P Boy: I’m from Waynesboro, Mississippi.
I started rapping back in ‘98. I signed with Dr. Ali’s
Aurora Entertain-ment. I released an album in 1999, entitled “Mouf
Of The South.”
How did that album do ?
P Boy: It did fairly well, underground.
It was a little independent label. U know , he sunk. They didn’t
push the album too far, but I got a good name for myself, underground.
Did they just market it in Mississippi
?
Yeah, Yeah. The guy was a Muslim. After
he recorded my album and put it out, certain things that I was
sayin’ didn’t go with his religion, and he couldn’t
promote that. U know, the cursing. The language. He tried to get
me to change my style and stop the cursing. I told him I wouldn’t
do it. I couldn’t go straight, like a Nelly, cause I came
in the game from the streets (fresh out the penitentiary). So
he stopped pushin’ the album and everything fell, u know
?
U and David Banner use to be pretty tight.
Do u still collaborate with him ?
P Boy: Nawh, we ain’t doin’
nothin together right now, but we got an understanding. We tight,
relationship wise. We doin’ things on 2 different levels,
as far as this music.
What are u pushin’ right now ?
P Boy: I’ve got a new album out
called “War Volume 1.” It’s on my label G.L.F.
(which stands for God Lives For real).
Where are u tryin’ to take this project
?
P Boy : Really, I just wanna form me a
company. I’m gonna use this project to set up right here
in Mississippi. I wanna distribute it myself. I wanna pretty much
work the whole state of Mississippi.
So you’re just concentrating on Mississippi
with this album ?
P Boy: Yeah, u gotta take where ya from,
first. So I’m lookin’ to put myself out there in Mississippi.
I think I’m really satisfied with that. Because if they
accept what I got to give, I know the world is gonna accept it.
Are there any other artists on your label
?
P Boy: Yeah, my little brother - Lil Money.
He’s co-owner of our company. They call him Lil Money, the
baby dragon. He was featured a couple of times on my first album.
After my bad deal, me and him built this label here.
So what have u been doin’ since your
last release in ‘99 ?
P Boy : We were touring and doin’
shows. We been all over the state. After my bad deal, that’s
when I met David Banner. I rolled with Banner for like a year.
Helpin’ him promote his album, “Them Firewater Boys.”
After we stopped rollin like that, I formed my own label. So I
just been tryin’ to build this label with no investors.
Do u still have a website ?
P Boy: Yeah, but we gettin ready 2 change
it to glfentertainment.com. That’s coming soon.
Will u be selling cds from your website
? Yeah, Yeah !! On the streets and out the stores, as well (mainly
mom and pops).
What was it like growing up in Waynesboro
?
P Boy: Slave infested. I grew up where
a lot of people still have that Mississippi slave mentality. They’ll
work jobs at these little factories all day, retire, and that’s
it. Nobody’s breaking the chain. So it was real hard growing
up here man, tryin’ to be who I am, and knowing that I could
be more. U know, having older people just as off track as a young
child. Tellin’ me it ain’t meant for me to have more.
They wanted u to do the factory thang ? Off top. Yeah, marry a
little hometown girl, work all day, and come home and drink beer.
All while livin’ in a trailor. That’s the cycle in
that town.
