What’s happenin’ yall ? If you’ve got this publication in your hands and you’re reading this, then you’ve thought enough of us to check us out, and we appreciate that more than u know.

I’d like to start off by correcting a mistake that was made in our last issue (concerning The New Power Chick). The submitting photographer led us to believe that he took those photos. He did not. They were actually taken by Jaro Valek ( from Jackson, Mississippi - (601) 212-8956). The model’s name is Shnea. She’s also from Jackson. Her email address is sweeney601@aol.com We apologize to the model and photographer for the mistake.

Now, Back To The Biz.............

The New Power is a tabloid sized magazine, printed on newsprint (paper), and it seems that some of u independent artist and labels have a problem with this type paper. Why ? The word has gotten back to us that some artist have said they won’t advertise with us because we’re not glossy. That’s funny. These fools tickle the shit out of me. A lot of the independents understand, it’s not about what type paper it’s printed on. It’s about how many u put out, where u put ‘em, who’s looking at them or buying ‘em. That’s the ones with real business sense. And u majors, I ain’t lettin’ yall off the hook, either. You’re the real dumb asses. U ought to know better. Independents, this ought to show u, that, just because you’re a major label and have a lot of money behind u, that doesn’t make u a marketing & promotions genius. When you’re trying to break a new artist, and keep the name of an established artist out here, exposure is crucial. CRUCIAL !!

Magazines are a dime a dozen. Glossy magazines are even more common. They’re going out of business everyday because of the overhead associated with trying to be glossy. To be perfectly honest with you, I’m not concerned with this magazine going glossy. Glossy magazines are only good for one thing....... Pictures. That’s it ! Photos do look better in a glossy magazine. What will you do with a glossy magazine that you can’t do with newsprint ? Nothing ! You’re gonna look at it, read it, or put it down. They both read the same way. When an artist or label gives us a professionally created ad, it looks just as good in our publication, as any other. Glossy or not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knockin’ anyone with a glossy magazine - But glossy’s just for decoration. We’re more concerned with feeding you valuable information about how to get it poppin’ in the music business, and letting you read about what’s happening with some of the talent already in this business and those trying to get in. So please don’t ask us about going glossy. We’ve been asked that question a million times.

I wanna make it clear that this article does not pertain to everyone. A lot of independent cats know what this business is about. It shows in their cd sales, popularity, fanbase, and hustle. The ones who know nothing about promotion and marketing...... It shows. Like the ones making the dumb ass remarks about our choice of paper.

No publication in this business offers the kind of rates we offer (for the places that we reach). 13 states - 4 countries. And we’re free. Everybody loves FREE. Majors, we’ve built this publication with the help of independents. So stop calling us like u gettin’ some shit here for free. We ain’t impressed by yo status. WE ARE NOT FANS [fanatics]!!

Those of you not diggin’ what we do..... COOL !! We’re not gonna hate on ya for gettin’ down with someone else. But don’t try to stop this movement called THE NEW POWER. Because you can’t !! A.C.
