Pit Bull

What’s up Pit Bull ? Nothin’  man. Just tryin’ to
get  this album done. We been on the road. The
album comes out in July, M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A
Major Issue). For those who don’t Know.
 You’re
signed to TVT Records, now. Did your
affiliation with Lil Jon have an impact on your
decision to go with them ?
Well, u know, Jon’s
had a big influence on my career. TVT signed me
because they see I work as hard as Jon. I stay on
the road. Puttin out my own mix tapes, my own
dvds. I got an independent mentality. I use to mess
with Luther Campbell. So, u know, he taught me a
whole lot.
How did u and Luke hook up ?
Basically, from the noise that I was makin’ in Miami.
Before u got in the business, what were u
doin’ ?
I use to play ball and do a bunch of dumb
shit. The same ole South story.
I know what cha
mean. Has it been a lot harder for u as a
Southern artist, and on top of that, being a
Cuban - Southern artist ?
Oh, most definitely. As
Southern artists, they don’t wanna give us no
respect. Folks up North can walk in off the streets
and get a fuckin’ deal. Down here, we need BDS,
soundscan..... shit like that. Then, we just might get
a deal. And if we get a deal, it be some bullshit. But
we make it work for us. That’s what this game is all
about. Makin’ anything work to your advantage.
So
what was it about TVT that made u wanna sign
with them ?
Cause these majors don’t know what
in the fuck they’re doin’. TVT is an independent that
works like a major. And like I told u, I have an
independent mentality. Let me do me. Just put me
where I need to be at.
So they let u do your
thang ?
Exactly ! I read an article in Ozone a
while back, about how u passed up on signing
with Irv Gotti and Murder Inc. Is that true ?
Yeah, I wasn’t ready for the opportunity. I was only
17. I was in New York, and they had just dropped
that Venni Vetti Vechi album. I walked outta the
studio. I walked out on the opportunity. U know what
I’m sayin ? Now that I’m older and I look back, I can
see Irv Gotti’s point of view. U know, like, I’m giving
this little motha fucka the opportunity to do this, and
he’s just gonna walk out on me. Which I under -
stand. But it’s a beautiful thang. Cause I got a
chance to experience the game for myself. Not
someone puttin’ me on. I put myself on. I basically
had to carry this shit myself.
How far do u and Lil
Jon go back ?
We go back about 3 years. I had a
song playin’ down here in Miami. In South Beach.
He heard it. We got introduced, and he asked me to
come to the studio.
So you’re on The Kings of
Crunk
? Yeah, I got “Cuban Rideout.” You’re on
the 2 Fast, 2 Furious Sound - track also, right ?
Yeah I’m on there, and the Crunk and Disorderly
album, too.
How did u get on that 2 Fast, 2
Furious soundtrack ?
Actually, thru Lil Jon. He
heard my song being played on the radio, took it to
John Singleton, and he was like..... this is Miami. I
became friends with Singleton after that. Like I said,
Jon has looked out for me. I owe him a lot. I won’t let
him down. I got a #13 record in the country right
now. It’s a Spanish / English record. So that’s a
beautiful thing. That record’s called “Culo.”
Tell us
about your new album.
Lil Jon and The Diaz
Brothers are executive producers. Featured, I’ve
got: Trick Daddy, Lil Jon, Luke’s gone be on the
album, Dirtbag, Wyclef, and I’m gettin’ Bun B. I like
to think of it as a melting pot.
Hey man, we
appreciate your taking time to holla at us. We’ll
be lookin’ for that new album in July.
Fa Sho.
Thanx.
