I really hate to keep going around
in circles, but man.... Sometimes this job can really start to
piss u off to the highest of pistivity.
The reason I'm kinda pissed right now is due to
all of the phone calls that I receive from artists, labels, and
publicist, stating the same thing...... I am or so and so is hot
right now and u really need to do an interview with him, her,
or them.
Most of the time, I've never even heard of em.
Most of the time, no one else has even heard of 'em. But that
doesn't mean they're not hot. (LOL)
As soon as I say, so and so has an album out now,
right ? They'll say yeah ! And I'll go, well, so and so really
needs to let everyone know about that album. Why don't yall buy
an ad with us. I don't even have to tell u what comes next. U
know, I get every excuse in the book and some not in the book.
It's mostly, well, we'll catch u on the next issue.
I don't wanna sit here and make it seem like I'm
after your money, but yeah, I'm after your money. U see, this
is a business. That's right, a business. It takes money to run
a business. Yall don't think I pay for this shit out of my pocket...
Do ya ? That would be stupid business. One of the most important
rules in business is never use your own money, unless u absolutely
have to.
Magazines are not in business to do interviews
on u or any other artist. They're not in business to take your
picture. Magazines are in business for the same reason that television
networks, radio stations, and newspapers are in business - To
advertise. That's right, we're in the advertising business. Not
the interview business.
The television sitcoms and dramas, the songs,
the photographs, and the interviews are merely there to keep your
attention long enough to see some form of advertising. I know
yall know this. Don't cha ? Tell me that u do. I think a lot of
u do, but forget it sometime.
The New Power is a free publication. We give it
away for free. We only charge for the ads. Because we give it
away for free, doesn't mean it gets printed and distributed for
free. U dig ?
So don't get mad at us when we come at cha with
the sales pitch - Cause that's what u do in the advertising business.
Go ask The Source, XXL, Vibe, Murder Dog, Ozone,
Down, and some of the other publications if they rely on ads.
U damn right they do ! They wouldn't make it if they weren't gettin'
any.
The mags like The Source, XXL, & Vibe have
to be a little more tactful. They're not gonna come out and say
a lot of this. They have a lot of employees they have to pay,and
they have a lot of expenses. They rely on money from a lot of
the corporations, so they have to bite their tongue most times.
Me, I rarely deal with corporations. Most of our money comes from
the streets. The independent cats. If I was dealing with corporations,
I'd still say the same thing. A major label called the other day
wanting to buy our cover and said if I bill them, they'll pay
15 to 30 days later. I told em we don't do business like that.
Hey yall, that shit's another name for credit. Damn a bill. Our
printer wants their money when services are rendered. Not a month
later. We ain't waiting around for nobody to pay us. We give u
what u want, so give us what we want. I understand how corporations
are run. I respect that. But they also have to respect how we
are run. Like Big Perm... I mean Big Worm told Smoky (in the movie
Friday), "It's principalities in this. It's about the principalities."
(LOL)
We aren't tryin' to lose any business, nor make
any enemies. But if someone can't understand where we're coming
from.... Then that's the way it's got to be. Besides, we know
everybody's not gonna love us. Shit, we're "The
Dirtiest Playas In The Game." We don't play by the
rules. We make our own. That's why we're The New Power. Let me
stop, It sounds like my head is as big as Elliott Wilson's (XXL).
Like I've said in some of my Publisher's Points.....
The real businessmen and women, the hustlers, and grinders know
what I'm talkin' about. They understand business. Business is
give and take. Whether you're buying or selling, you're gonna
get something and you're gonna give something.
Just Show Me The Money !
