Whatever happened 2 the days when businessmen were content with having the title of owner? Now days, everybody wants 2 be a CEO. Why ? Is it because it sounds better than being just an owner ?

Ever since Suge Knight, Puffy, Master P., Damon Dash, Ronald and Bryan”Baby” Williams started being referred 2 as CEOs, there has been an explosion of young black CEOs in the music business.

CEO is an acronym for Chief Executive Officer. If you’re the only officer in a company, can u be the chief officer ? 2 me, that’s like saying, you’re the Chief of Police, when you’re the only police officer in the department. It makes no sense.

I don’t think some folks don’t really understand the difference in a CEO, a President, and an owner. CEOs usually work for a corporation, or a limited liability company.

The CEO is the visionary. He or she sets the goals. It’s his or her job 2 lead the company in the right direction. The CEO ultimately has the last word, unless the board of directors is voting.

The Presidents job is like that of a manager. He takes the CEO’s vision or goal, and has 2 actually make it happen. If the CEO sees the company owning offices and real estate on all three coasts (complete with recording studios), it’s the Presidents job 2 make it happen.

I think we all know what an owner is.

Maybe this isn’t that big a deal. Maybe it’s just something that irritates me. Does it irritate u ? I’ve heard guys say they’re the CEO of their labels, and not have any money in the bank, no product in stores, no promotional material, and no marketing strategy. Does that sound like a CEO 2 u ?

Anyone can be an owner, but not just anyone can be a CEO.

So, are u a CEO or just an owner ?
