Baby Stone, what it is ?

What’s happening ?

Give all of our readers the run down on who u are andwhat you’re doin.

Baby Stone is a young man who came up in the Jackson (Mississippi) area. A man who’s had some downfalls and really just tryin to start over man. Not too much different from yourregular inner city youth. U know what I’m sayin? But one who has gained the mindframe to kinda got damn do something better with his life. Know what I’m sayin ?

U served 7 years of a life sentence. U got off due to the negligence of the state prosecutor. Man, that doesn’t happen very often. Especially when a young black male is being accused. Tell us about that.

Yeah, yeah ! basically, what it was was, they were too anxious to get a case against me that they went about it the wrong way. The case got overturned against me based on some hearsay. That’s basically the blessing I caught on that. The prosecutor had it out for me, and they went about it the wrong way.

How far into your seven years were u before u decided that rapping is what u wanted to do ?

Well, u know, while doing time, I never really wanted to do any rapping. I started out just writing. I always did have sort of a passion for writing. I always had a thing for words. And I’ve always had a way with speech. Rap came into play after my release. I had a partner who was inthe studio puttin’ things down, and he was just gettin’ out himself. After he
died, there was just something in me that wanted to continue the dream that he had started.

With your father being a minister, how did he see your wanting to step into the music business ?

My father, he had the same mindframe. Cause he done been down that road. Before he became a minister, he was a hellraiser. At different points in a mans life the Lord
comes in and touches a man’s heart and brings about a change. So basically, with him, he was happy to support anything that was legal and not gonna have me out here doing some of the things that I was doing before. Know what I’m sayin’ ?

Tell us about your new album. What’s it called and what can we expect from it ?

The name of the new album is called Better Way. I just read a write-up in the local
paper that said it’s really speaking on a lot of the same things. But that’s what I wanted it to do with this album. This album deals with the mindframe I was in during the time that I did, plus some of the things I’ve seen since I’ve been home.

Where did the name Baby Stone come from ?

That goes back to when I was locked up. U may have heard of the Blackstone Rangers or
the Black Peacestones out of Chicago. It’s an organization. U know, like the Vice Lords. Back then, I was the youngest of the brothas, so they looked at me as the baby of em all. That’s where the name comes from.

You’re signed to a Mississippi label, Corner Boy Records, tell us something about the label and the people working it from behind the scene. The CEO is my boy, Bra, Anthony Brown. Myself, co -CEO. Christopher Todd, he also owns a percentage of the company. I got my manager, Mic Larre, he’s the president and running things. Basically, Corner Boy Records goes way beyond what we’re doin’ now. Corner Boy’s been around for a long time. There’s been a few individuals affiliated with Corner Boy, but we just decided to do something more positive.

I heard u represented Mississippi at the Junior Olympic Nationals as a boxer. How’d
u get into boxing ? I was a bad ass, always running around getting into shit. So my old man was like..... If u wanna fight, we gone do it the right way. It was something that kept me out of trouble. It was something I enjoyed doing (with the traveling and everything else that came with it).

Do u still dabble in any boxing ?

No ! Boxing takes up too much of your time. That’s a full-time job, whether people believe it or not. They ain’t paying Tyson them all that money for nothing. It takes a lot to do that. I still got these hands though.

As far as the rap game in Mississippi, where does Baby Stone fit in ?

I’m lookin’ for myself and Corner Boy Records to make a major impact in this music thing, cause right now there’s nothing that I wanna put more time, energy, and money into than this music. We gone do some big things around here. I’ve been doing shows in Atlanta and I performed at TJ’s DJ’s down in Tallahassee, Florida. I’ve done shows in Houston at TSU (Texas Southern Univ.), in Memphis, and areas like Louisiana and Alabama. We movin’ with it.
