What up playas ? Give us a little history on The Chiefa
Clique.
Well, The Chiefa Clique originated outta
Malvern, Arkansas. The group was formed back in 2000. We’ve
been workin’ on our album, “Homegrown,” for
the past couple of years. We’re also workin’ on another
project called “Robert Brickey.”
Who are some of the groups members ?
There’s 6 of us. We got Keedy Wee,
Crazy Horse, Whisper G., Squanto, Geronimo, and myself True Pimp.
What’s the rap scene like in Arkansas
?
Awh man, It’s real hot. I’ve
heard of there being something like 300 artists and groups starving
2 get in the industry. Arkansas is so underground that we really
don’t get recognized for our r&b and rap. U got kats
like Willie Will, Nuff Said, and Family Records. They’re
just a few of the artist who’ve been puttin’ it down
for a while. That’s one of the reason why, when I got a
chance 2 mash with yo magazine, I wanted 2 jump on it, and help
put Arkansas on the map as far as puttin’ some names out
there for folks 2 read about. You’ve got Derek Fisher’s
( from the Los Angeles Lakers) label here, Boss Hogg Entertainment.
Have u ever heard of them ?
Yeah !
We’ve got them here, but they’re
still not on the map yet either. There’s just so much talent
here. You’ve got Texas, Memphis, Mississippi - u guys in
Mississippi are the next big thing man. We really would like 2
come down there and do some shows. I figure if we could get some
shows down there, that that would be a good way for us 2 get some
notariety.
Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, & South
Carolina are like the last Southern states to not have a rap artist
to really bust open on a national level. We had Afro Man, but
David Banner has really been the one who’s done it for Mississippi
on a national level at this point.
Who do u see as being Arkansas’ first
real break thru artist ?
U know what, there are so many. I’m
gonna name a few. Nuff Said & Chiefa Clique, we’re hot.
We got a hot sound. Willie Will and Crooked X also. But 2 really
be honest with u, I think Nuff Said has put in so much work, and
been at it long enough, that he could blow at anytime now. He’s
got Interscope and Universal lookin’ at him right now.
What does Chiefa Clique bring to the game
?
By having six artists in the group, u get
six different flavors from us. When we all get on a track, u gone
get everything u want. And when we’re on stage, man we have
an energy that just blows people’s mind.
U got Southern cities like Houston, New
Orleans, Memphis, Atlanta, & Miami, they really support their
artists. Some artists in these cities make a lot of money without
ever leaving the area. Is that happening in Arkansas ?
Naw ! Arkansas has a lot of talent, but
nobody wants 2 work together. In order for us 2 make it, we gone
have 2 come together.
