Pimp and Gangsta, what’s been happening with ya ?

Gangsta : Chillin’ man, we out here in Houston, Texas promoting the new album we just dropped, “Love Us Or Hate Us.” It’s in stores now. We just got thru shootin’ two videos in one day man. We gettin’ ready to drop this first video for the first single, “I Wish.” We pretty much just hustlin’ dog.

O.K., what’s it like being with Rap-A-Lot now ?

Gangsta : It feels good. Good love. U know what I’m talkin’ bout ? They showin’ us love and support. They got us out here doin’ this thang. We out here in Texas promotin’ the album and doin’ shows every night. On the road man. Just networking. U know what I’m sayin ? We doin’ more than Universal had us doin’.

For the folks who don’t know about what went down with your Universal Records deal, tell us a little about it.

Gangsta : Universal pretty much just wasn’t fuckin’ with us man. Not like they was suppose to be fuckin’ with us. They wasn’t treatin’ us like family. We was gettin’ treated like the 3rd and 4th cousins. Like we just comin’ in town for the weekend. That type of shit. U know what I’m sayin ? They wasn’t feedin’ us right. We some big country boys. We got them pot bellies, so we gotta eat.

For our readers who’ve never heard of Dirty, give em a little history.

Pimp : We from Montgomery, Alabama (where we still reside). Like I say in my music, I been rappin’ since the 3rd grade. As I got older, I decided I needed a partner to rap with. So outta the blue, my little cousin (Gangsta) was the next nigga I hollered at. And we been got damn it, puttin it down. And we been dirty ever since. Got a deal with Universal ....whatever happened..... woompie woomp. Now we with Rap-A-Lot. We’ll keep it simple like that. Dirty is pretty much Alabama’s flagship group.

Do yall feel like you’re carrying Alabama on your shoulders ?

Pimp: Oh yeah ! I got the tattoo on my back. We keep it real. We holdin’ it down for Alabama. We doin’ big thangs for that state. U know what I’m sayin ? We represent for the whole Alabama. Not just Montgomery.

Is Alabama showin’ yall a lot of love ?

Pimp: Oh Yeah, they love the Dirty boys. Cause we done opened up a lot of doors for a lot of cats there.

You’ve got your own label, Blakklown. What’s happening with that ?

Pimp : Well, like we said, Universal wasn’t fuckin’ with us. They put us on the back burner for like a year. So we started our own label. We went out and draft picked 9 cats outta Montgomery that we felt were worthy enough for us to put our money behind. These cats ended up being the coldest niggas you’ll ever hear. U know what I’m sayin’ ? We got our own producer and our own studio. We just choppin’ it up like that man. These cats comin’ hard man. We got Lil Burn 1. His album drops the end of February. So we might be doin’ another interview with u.

What’s next for Dirty ?

Pimp : Right now, we just promotin’ this album....cause it’s so hot. We just can’t hop off of it, yet. We look to keep workin’ it for another 5 to 6 months off the top. There just ain’t no way around it. Cause we just shot 2 hot videos. So u can look to hear some more singles off this one. We did a lot of Super Bowl kick off parties to set up the Super Bowl week. We have a show to do on the 30th, then we headin’ back to Alabama. We been out here (Houston,TX) 2 weeks. Doin’ a show every day. Just promotin’ hard. Walk throughs, radio, & retail. I mean we been out here hard and it’s done paid off.

How did Rap-A-Lot end up pickin’ yall up ?

Pimp : Well, at that time we felt like we wasn’t gettin’ no love from Universal. We hollered at Scarface. We was good friends with Scarface. He knew what we was goin’ thru. So he referred us to J. Prince. And he made that call for us. He got us down like the next week, man. When we dropped Universal, we got signed to Rap-A-Lot like that next week. He felt like it was an honor to have us, and we definitely felt like it was an honor to have them. It’s family now. R for life.

J. Prince is a livin’ legend in this business. What’s it been like workin’ with him ?

Pimp : Awh man, it’s an honor workin’ with the nigga that put Texas on the map. He feeds u a little information at a time. Just enough for u to understand before the next lesson. The books are one thang. And u can go by the books. But it ain’t nothin’ like hearing it from a nigga who done walked that. U know what I’m sayin’ ? He treats us with much respect, and we treat him with much respect. He already seems like a big brother, man.

Are yall doin’ any touring ? What are some of the cities you’ll be hittin’ ?

Pimp : We just came off a 20 city tour. We started in Washington, D.C. Worked our way on down thru the Cack a lackies man. Thru Alabama and Texas, and back up thru Memphis. Then back thru Texas. We lookin’ forward to goin’ on this next tour, man. After the video drops, we gone hit it again and work that Westcoast and Northwest. U know what I’m sayin ?

You all have been out here a little while. Did u ever feel like u had to relocate from your home in Alabama in order to get on in this business ?

Pimp : I feel like there’s only so much u can do standing in one spot. We so hot in Montgomery right now, that there’s only so much we can do. We gotta expand. We gotta step outside that box. Steppin’ out was the best thang we could have done. This just ain’t gone stop in Texas. We gone work our way on round everywhere.

So yall don’t feel like u gotta move to Atlanta or Houston, now that folks outside of Alabama know who u are ?

Pimp : Hell naw !! We Montgomery for life. I got Alabama across my back. I ain’t goin’ nowhere. U can’t get this scratched out. It’s there. We don’t just represent Alabama. We represent Texas too. We signed to a Texas label and we reppin’ them Texas boys thru Alabama. We let em know, hell, if we gone stay here, we gotta work together. So if we gone fight, we need to gone get it out the way now. Cause we gone be here, and we here now. U know what I’m sayin ? We breakin’ bread with yall now. If u respect us, we gone respect yall. We hollerin’ out Alabama every 3rd word.

Is there anything u would like to say to your fans before we let u go ?

Pimp : Yeah, we’d just like to apologize to yall for being away so long. We back now and finna give yall some hot ass albums. We off Universal and we finna do it hard. We still got our hood credentials. We still in the hood. So we here.
