Mississippi is a musical boiling pot about to over flow. With
a heritage deep in blues, the music reflects the soul of the state.
LoLo is one of those souls that have transcended into the hip-hop
era. I had a nice sit down with him to discuss the formula for
the artist we call LoLo.
DG - What up LoLo?
LoLo - Doing my thing, ya know.
DG - Tell us a little about yourself.
LoLo - LoLo is a creation of the world
blended into one. I sucked up the game from all over the West
and East coast. And since I was raised in the south I made my
own style. I fell in love with the game back in the day when Spice
1, NWA, and Brotha Lynch Hung were on top. That started me to
writing. I was rapping on the low in Sacramento, CA at the time.
Then we moved to Brookhaven, MS and I hooked up with some cats
from my projects and started a group. I saw Outkast for the first
time and it was my come out party ever since.
DG - Where are you from?
LoLo - Brookhaven, MS. It's about 30 minutes
from Jackson. Central Mississippi representing, ya know ? I stay
in Hattiesburg, MS right now, and here is where I do my thing.
DG - What is the music scene like down
there?
LoLo - It's bubbling right now. A lot of
people are coming out with mixtapes getting ready for the first
quarter. A lot of hot music is coming out but the industry ain’t
in our world, yet. We got David Banner, Boo, Kamikaze, Holla Point
& Doughbelly Stray with a foot in the door. It's just to see
if we can put up the numbers to have them A&R's saying, lets
tap into Mississippi and get this paper.
DG - How have you put your mark on the
game down there?
LoLo - I got the fire tracks. I'm killing
them in the beats. I sold my first beat for $50 and that turned
me out. I went to thinking how to come up with some music I know
a cat would pay more for. I worked on my craft and got right.
Everybody in the world is a rapper, let them tell it. So he or
she is going to need a beat and I got dat. I dropped a few mixtapes
and people was like who was that. LoLo got flow and tracks like
that; lets do some work with him. I'm a people's person so it
was easy for me to hook up with different people ya know.
DG - Do you have any projects out now?
LoLo - I got the first "Lord Have
Mercy," out now. I have two mixtapes out now and I'm steady
grinding. I just released the advanced copy of my second album
"Lord Have Mercy 2: From The Jukehouse To The Church".
I produced about 85% of the album. I got my Misguided Records
label mates A-1 & Mack P featured on it. XVII (17) from Big
House Music is featured on it. My girl Chiatne and Trey held me
down on the vocals. Chris Tracks & Trey Herring (Belly Of
The Beats) did some tracks and a cat named Pop from Big Talk Entertainment
dropped one for me. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback
so I'm going to raise the stakes a bit. I'm going back in to remix
and master it and drop it like its supposed to be done.
DG - What's your next move and projects
coming up?
LoLo - I'm hustling. I'm on the new Dub-G
album, "Executive Status" and the new XVII album, "Welcome
To Mississippi". I'm on the new DJ Sweat mixtape and I'm
working on a compilation called "Game Bread," coming
soon. I'm trying to get on any and every thing coming out track
or lyrical wise.
DG - Is there any where on the net people
around the world can get a cd or see you & your people?
LoLo - Yall can get the first album online
from www.cdbaby.com/lolo. You can also hit me up at www.misguidedrecords.com.
DG - Anything you want to say to your fans
before we go?
LoLo - It's so much I could say. Check
me out for the 2k5 and thanks for the support. Mississippi fasho.
