You can go to Louisiana and find all
types of things that catch your eye. From the music, to the food,
to the culture itself, Louisiana has a rich soul. There is an
artist there named Mako Mr. Kazie who has a deep mind, body and
soul. I kicked it with him in the boot to see a side of an artist
many people don't see or have.
DG - What up Street Clout?
Mako - What's good dog!
Z-Way - What's up pimping!
DG - Tell us a little about Street Clout
Records.
Z-Way - Street Clout is about the streets.
It ain’t all about a record label. It's about how people
live, who do it all on the entertainment field. We offer management,
production, marketing, promotion, artist development, and consulting.
A lot of artist do rap but don't channel it into
the right direction. We're all about positioning our artist to
be in the right place at the right time, and to know what's going
and how to present themselves all at the same time. We operate
from ATL to Philly to Mississippi to Louisiana and all over. If
you have a project that can go, then we're in the mix with you.
We fit in the game because we are the game, and the game is the
streets, and we represent the streets. Regardless of what you
do, you still street clout because of your credibility. We're
an important part of the puzzle to the industry.
DG - Who all’s on your roster?
Z-Way - We have a 3 man R&B group
called Blo, a solo artist named Chump Change, Clout
Boyz, and Mako Mr. Kazie. We look for, and house, well rounded
artists. People who do
more than just sing or rap, but give their soul in their words.
DG - How long have you been in the game?
Mako - Well, my first love was football.
That's how I got the name Mako Mr. Kazie. Kazie is short for kamikazie,
and I got it by hitting a cat so hard that I ripped two nerves
in my neck to end my career. So kamikazie is real to me. I lost
my brother in 1996 along with my girl. So
pain is there. I started writing when I lost football. And Mako
Mr. Kazie the poet was born. I've been in the studio for two years
laying tracks down and its been popping ever since.
DG - Describe your style?
Mako - It's Southern, with a little bit
of west coast. I grew up on Cash Money and No Limit, but I found
the poet rappers fit me. They helped me channel my pain into words.
Cats like Pac, Biggie, Nas and Jigga didn't rap. They spit street
poetry. I don't consider myself as a rapper. I'm a poet and that's
how I feel about it.
DG - With all the musicians in Louisiana
how does Mako Mr. Kazie fit in ?
Mako - I come in with a whole different
light. I have a little bit of everybody in me, because I came
up on they music. I'm not trying to take over I'm trying to get
with these people because they helped me take my pain and turn
it into something painless. I come with a message. They
say I sound like this one and that one, but its all from my heart
and soul.
DG - How did you get with Street Clout
Records?
Mako - God blessed me with Street Clout.
I was about to get back into school and asked the lord to send
me something positive, because the rap game is so dirty. The next
day Z-Way popped up on my phone. Strange thing is.... A year ago,
he tried to hook up with me. He came to my house and everything
he said was in my head. I know the lord hooked that up so I'm
going to ride with that.
DG - What are your some of your upcoming
projects?
Mako - Well, my first album, "Louisiana
Legend," is in stores now. It's 18 tracks with no skits and
no clowning. This is personal to me. I got my boys: Ghetto Barracuda,
Boss P, Big Sinatra, and my girl Polony featured on it. It's hot.
This is music for your soul. My dog, T-Bone, did
some tracks, and Drama Boy also did some tracks. Then we got the
one we're working on now, named, "Global Warning," and
that's coming soon. We grinding non-stop.
DG - Anything you want to say to your fans
before we go?
Z-Way - You can go to www.streetcloutrecords.com
and see all of our artists and see what we offer and what's going
on in the streets and keep supporting Street Clout Records and
what we do.
Mako - Big ups to my Me-Phi and Street
Clout family. To everybody I'm affiliated with what's up. To all
my fans be on the lookout for ya boy.
