Who or what is Muddy Water ?

B. Real: We’re a group originally from Mississippi. We’ve been rapping for about 7 years. One of us is living in Dallas and the other in Houston. Finally, things are starting to go in the right direction.

G-Dogg: Yeah we just signed with our new management, Sky Executives, out of Atlanta.
We just spent this last weekend in Atlanta hooking up with the right people. We shot some photos and checked out some studios. We’re supposed to be doing a song with Mike Jones in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Hopefully we can get everything worked out with Warner and their attorneys. We’re trying to get that worked out so that we can release our first single around September. It’s looking pretty good right now. We’re just trying to solidify everything.

B. Real: It’s lookin’ pretty good for Muddy Water right now.

Are yall gonna push the single on your own ?

B. Real: Well, we hooked up with Millennium, which is an affiliate of Warner Brothers. He
liked the single that we’ve got right now, and he just wants to see the finished product.

With one of u living in Dallas and the other in Houston, how difficult has it been for u to
get together and record ?

G-Dogg: Well, I’m in the real estate business, so I’m in Dallas and Houston pretty much 3,4,5 times a month. So we just hook up on the weekends or during the week. It ain’t
that hard. We’re always on the phone. We got unlimited long distance. We’re flowin’ over the phone, workin’ on beats and stuff. It’s not that bad.

B. Real: When I get some new tracks in, I’ll send em to him, and when he gets some new tracks in, he’ll send em to me. We just keep it movin’ like that man. We don’t let nothing slow us down.

U guys are originally from McComb, Mississippi. How did u end up out in Texas ?

G - Dogg: My oldest brother moved out here back in 96, and we just came out here with him tryin’ to make something pop off. Cause it was hard to get something to pop off in Mississippi back then. So we figured we’d go to Texas and see if we could make something happen. U know, Dallas, it’s not out there like Houston, but we spent 4 or 5 years in Dallas tryin’ to push something. And now we’re back in Mississippi tryin’ to make it happen. It ain’t always bout where u at sometimes. Sometimes it’s about where u from. People like u, Anthony, make it work. U know ?

I appreciate that. It’s people like yall who help us keep this New Power movement
going. Yall help us keep this publication on the street.

So being out in Texas, have yall been influenced by their sound ?

G-Dogg: As a matter of fact, we chopped and screwed the last song we did while we were
in Atlanta. We’ll probably do some more. But for the most part, we still keep it muddy. We keep it muddy Mississippi. That’s our main thing.

What kind of music were u into growin’ up ?

B. Real: Tupac Shakur, definitely !

G-Dogg: I would say Scarface. Mystikal. No question, about Mystikal.

What’s your album gonna be called ?

G-Dogg: We’re callin’ it Out Dat Mud. That’s gonna be the song that we push first. Mike
Jones is suppose to be on that one. We got another one we just finished called “Jump,”
and “OK.” They’re hot, too.

What all will Sky Executives be doing for your group ?

G-Dogg: They’re representing us. They actually got us the hook-up with Millennium. Right now, they’re own their way to New York to shop for a deal. They’re just tryin’ to get us better deals and better distribution. They’re keepin’ us in contact with the right people in the industry.U know ? They’re handling the publicity, the street team, the whole 9 yards.

What made u go with someone out of Atlanta, rather than someone in Houston ?

G-Dogg: Well, they contacted us. Yeah, they found us. We’ve been out there for a while.... On the internet and stuff.

Do u come back to Mississippi a lot to promote your projects ?

G-Dogg: As a matter of fact, we just ordered 1,000 cds and we’re gonna give em all away. That’s what we do when we’re back in Mississippi, we usually give all of our cds away for promotion. We’ll give away 400 to 500 cds everytime we’re there. From North to South.

Where do u see your homestate headed ? Is it moving forward or at a stand still ?

G-Dogg: I see it getting better man. With what yall are doing (The New Power), and what yall puttin’ down, that’s North Mississippi meeting up with the South. Which there ain’t never been no kind of connection before yall. I ain’t never seen nothing like this. I’m proud of that. Now we got the M.A.P. Coalition and that’s cool, too. I’d like to work with those cats, too.
