What’s up with Rick Mason these days ?

RM: Rick Mason Communications.

What do u do at Rick Mason Communications ?

RM: We try 2 keep all our ventures under one umbrella. There’s radio promotion, the “A Moment With Rick Mason” tv show, bail bonding, music management, a night club, and a love fragrance line.

What do u consider your biggest accomplishment as an entrepreneur ?

RM: My tv show...”A Moment With Rick Mason.”

You’re well known in the Golden Triangle as a radio personality, and concert host / emcee. Who are some of the people you’ve worked with ?

RM: I’ve worked with a lot of major and local artists. The majors include: Genuwine, 69 Boyz, Kirk Franklin, David Banner, Three 6 Mafia, Juvenile, Keith Sweat, Rome, Lavert, Public Announcement, Lil Wayne, Mia X, Fiend, and The Tom Joyner Show’s Funky Forecast (from Jackson, MS). The locals include : Sipp, Redd Rumm, N-Hanz, Country Boys, Mastermind Records, Sean Michael, R.J. and Trill City, promotion for Boss Affairs, Ervin Johnson and Herman Records, and The Lo Kee Family (S.O.S., Big Bull, Deentown Villians, Doughbelly Stray, & Tic), Steve A. and Hit Em Hard Entertainment, and the gospel group Redemption.

Where do u see yourself in 10 yrs. ?

RM: In a gospel explosion. By that, I mean everything that I’m doing in r&b and hip-hop, I wanna be doing in the the gospel world.

What advise would u give young people aspiring 2 be entrepreneurs ?

RM: 2 not give up. It’s a numbers game. Keep your name and face out there at all times. Just keep focused and don’t let anyone discourage u. I live by the acronym, P.U.S.H.
(Pray Until Something Happens).

How did u get your start?

RM: I started in sales and airshift at WACR (103.9 FM) Columbus, MS, and then became a program director’s understudy under Gerald Jackson. I then moved on 2 WMXU (106.1) Columbus, MS doing weekends, the street team, and overnights. That brings me 2 where I am now, WMSU (92.1) Starkville, MS, where I was once an afternoon dj. I also worked street promotions. Now I host my own show called “The Dirty South Flavor Show”
( 6pm - 10pm, every Saturday). It’s a show dedicated 2 local, state, and Southern artists.

I’d like 2 give some shout outs 2 those djs that I’ve worked with :
DJ Controller, D.O.C., DJ Pony, Big Daddy, Kenny Smoove, Eric Johnson, Steve Poston, Rocky Love, Denise Brooks, Marella, Gerald Jackson, Sherry Ellis, Melvin Jackson, Ro Bonner, J. Michael Bailey, Bobby Wonder, Da Bomb, DJ L.L., & DJ Maze.
