Hey,what’s goin’ on Scar ?

Scar : Hey, what’s happening Ant ?

What cha got happening ?

Scar : Man.... just out on the road promoting this “Big Boi Presents :Got Purp - Volume 2.” It came out November 22. We got the single ”Kryptonite” out right now. I actually have the second single. It’s called “You Got Me,” featuring Big Boi. We’re gonna shoot the video for that at the end of January. Besides that, we’re doing a promo tour. I’m doing a lot of radio and kids events right now. Outkast has a movie coming, called Idlewild. I’m actually on the first single, called “The Train.” I’ve got a song with Bubba Sparxxx. I think it’s his second or third single. I’m not sure. It’s called “Ain’t Life Grand.” I’m blessed. I’m happy. I just got through doing a track with Puffy and Big Boi. It’s gonna be on Puffy’s album. I’m just out here hustlin’ man - grindin’.

Being that you’re from Mississippi ........

Scar : Columbus !

Yeah, Columbus, Mississippi. Has it been difficult tryin’ to become accepted over in Atlanta ? U know how people feel about the state of Mississippi. U know, the misconceptions.

Scar : Exactly ! It’s funny..... when I first came over here - when I left Columbus - I was actually going to college at Morehouse, and it’s a diverse atmosphere and a lot of people would be like ..... where u from ? And I’d say Mississippi and they’d be like.... FOR REAL ? They’d be like.... what’s it like ? Really, at first, it use to get on my nerves. Then I realized that a lot of people really don’t know any better. Besides David Banner, nobody really knows Mississippi for anything else (musically). That’s the only thing that’s been in the forefront besides Oprah and Elvis. U know, the people born there. It’s really time to just let people know that we’ve got talent in Mississippi. I was reading an article about me on the internet and it said I was from London. It’s funny. My pops was in the Air Force, so I was able to travel a lot of places. I spent 4 and a half years in England and I think a lot of people ran with that. My whole thing is to not let people get it twisted. I’m from Columbus, Mississippi. That’s where I’m from. That’s where my family is. I go there once a month. I’m not gonna lie..... Mississippi’s not in the mix like Atlanta, but we’re hustlin’ and grindin’. Atlanta’s been doin’ their thang. Houston’s on right now. Mississippi’s gone have their day and I’ll be so happy.

It’s gonna come when u drop your album. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about u.

Scar : Yep, yep, yep !

When will your album be released ?

Scar : It should be ready around the Spring or top of the Summer. The album is 85 to 90 percent done. I’m gonna be doing 2 songs with Raphael Saadiq. I’m still creating and writing for other artists.

Who’s handling the production on your album ?

Scar: That’s my man, Nate Wonder. He’s an up-and-coming producer - real, real talented guy. Actually, Big is tryin’ to sign him now, as a producer. I write all my stuff. I’m just now tryin to get into production. R. Kelly, that’s what I’m on my way to.

I hear ya. That’s where the money is. Have u written anything for some names that people might know ?

Scar : Yeah..... Usher has his label, Us Records, and he has a group called 110 - I just did 2 songs with them. Me and my homeboy JQ. So.... they’re excited about that. I’m doin’ something with this young lady named Megan. She’s signed to Def Jam. I had to stay on Scar before I gave away any hits. (Laughing) Cause I don’t believe in that.

I heard a rumor here in Columbus that u had done some stuff for Bow Wow at one time.

Scar : Not Bow Wow, but me and Bryan Cox (who use to be Jermaine Dupri’s right-hand-man) did some stuff together. My first placement was with Lil’ Cory. I wrote a song called “Ghetto Superstar.” He came out on Motown/Noontime.

I had an opportunity to hear your little brother sing at Mixfactory Studios here in Columbus. He’s a talented young dude. Does muscial talent run in your family ?

Scar : Really, to be honest, we don’t have anyone in my family who’s done the singing thing. I guess it started with me and my brother, Gerald. He is talented. Everytime I come home he’s writing a song. He’s in school right now. I told him that when he gets out, if this is what he wants to do, I’ve got him.

Scar, thanks for your time and good luck with your music.

Scar : Thanks, Ant. I’ll be in Columbus for Christmas. I’ll definitely be hollerin’ at cha.

Do That !
