Southern Hip-Hop has truly come a long
way. At one point, it seemed as though New York and Cali were the
only breeding ground for hot talent. Throughout the past decade,
various emcees hailing from the southern states have proven that
theory wrong. Next on the list to add his flavor to the already
stuffed pot is Webbie. Webbie comes straight out of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. Rolling with Trill Entertainment, he has spent the past
few years lacing tracks with the likes of Lil Boosie. Now, he's
all set to drop his debut album, "Savage Life". Peep our
interview with the young rhyme slinger.
Well first off man, good looking out for taking the time for
this brief interview. Your name, Webbie, was that just a nickname
for you growing up?
Webbie: Yeah !
Now was there a group that you were down with before this?
Webbie: No, I'm down with Trill Entertainment.
So tell everybody about your album that's getting ready to come
out?
Webbie: It's called Savage Life. That's me, and I'm with Trill
Entertainment, so that's why I called it that, plus that's what
they call me.
So who all did you work with on this album?
Webbie: I really just kept it all in the Trill family, I worked
with Lil Boosie, and I got B.G. on a track.
So all together, how long did it take you to put the album together?
Webbie: It took me about two months.
So what else is going on for you besides the cd?
Webbie: It's just the same ol' regular shit. I'm still in the
same spot.
What's been the process of getting to where you're at?
Webbie: I've been rapping for a long time, but I never saw a
studio until I was about 16. I'm 19 now. First, Trill Entertainment
dropped Lil Boosie's solo album, and then they dropped a joint
with me and him together. They dropped a couple of mixtapes (Trill
Vol. I, II, & III). Me and Boosie dropped another joint album,
called "Gangsta Music", and that's what put us in the
stores.
What kind of style do you feel like you bring to the South?
Webbie: That Savage Life shit.
So who’s influenced you in your career?
Webbie: Tupac…I liked Tupac. He the one that said it all.
And anybody that's makin’ heat right now.
What are you listening to out there besides your own music?
Webbie: I listen to everybody man. Hip-hop and R&B.
Do you ever really get time to go online and peep your interviews,
or chat with fans?
Webbie: Naw, not really. Sometimes, when I go to the studio one
of my boys tell me what's going on, and what's being said on the
net.
What's been the response around your hood to your success?
Webbie: You know, some people love it, and some people hate it.
What about shows? Have you been doing any?
Webbie: Yeah, we been doing shows. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays,
and Sundays….
Are there any final words or comments you wanted to get out?
Webbie: Free Pimp C ! Shout out to the Trill family. Shout out
to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
